Patient Safety Success: How to Improve a System

Interested in improving systems? Delivered by Haelo and The Greater Manchester Academic Health Science Network, this one-year Breakthrough Series Collaborative (BTS) Improving Medicine Safety coaches teams, using improvement science, on how to help make Greater Manchester the safest place in the world to administer and take medicines. This film shows, in depth, the Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh team’s work on creating a more accurate medicines reconciliation sheet; helping to reduce medication errors across their district. This film has been produced by Haelo and commissioned by the Greater Manchester Academic Health Science Network (GM AHSN).

Safety Thermometer App

Do you use the Classic Safety Thermometer? Revolutionise your data input process with our new app!
The Safety Thermometer App, built by the NHS Quality Observatory and supported by Haelo, has been introduced to Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust to revolutionise the monthly audit of data. The audit, a national requirement, aims to monitor harm-free care across the nation.

On average it was estimated that 76.25 hours were spent in total per month on collecting and processing the information for submission in the acute setting alone (excluding paediatrics and maternity). It is now estimated that, in the acute setting, the new process will save on average 58 hours per month– that’s 696 hours per year! Of this, 73% (507 hours) are clinical hours. That equates to approximately £11.5k per annum.
